Swinging It: Anya Hindmarch Ripley Satchel
We love our cooky Anya Hindmarch stuff. So coming across something simple from AM is a surprise!
The Ripley Satchel, and its smaller sister Ripley Cross-body, is a wonderfully plain bag in Anya Hindmarch’s vast novelty (and lovely) bag lines. It’s sort of been AM’s strength to take its own wonderfully crafted bags and glamifying it up to incorporate several design cues of the season. These little cutesies are even more adorable in their small leather goods section. So when you see something toned down like this from the UK-based show stopper, it’s well worth the look.
The Ripley bag comes with a top handle. Looking like a cross between a camera bag with its side winding top zipper, and a messenger with its pocket slip and two zippered pockets, it’s a great everyday bag.
To avoid deviating from the brand’s style signature, you get a tassel puller with eye details, and a bi-color strap. The straps are detachable and you can play switch up with the strap bag accessories from Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Prada and others catching on with the trend. What makes AM’s straps unique is they are adjustable. You can snap them shorter for shoulder space, or snap then longer for a cross body type of sling.
The interiors are also in contrasting color ways. The plain and safe colored suede exterior is complimented with a striking interior color, making the bag interesting outside-in.
Compared to other suede messengers, this one’s the smartest, as far as design is concerned (in my opinion). Back sides of suede bags get a beating as it rubs against your clothing. So seeing a smooth leather backside is like an umbrella under London rains. So glad to have it there! This way you won’t have to worry about color transfer or rubbing the suede thinner over time.
There are brands out there that aren’t necessarily big name fashion brands, but take equal amounts of effort and well-thought editing to produce quality hand bags. And Anya Hindmarch is one of them. In case you haven’t looked into this brand yet, now is the time to do so, now with the Autumn/Winter 2016 collection is available online and in stores.
